Everything to me | A song of adoption and life

This is why we fight.  To give stories like this a happy ending.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPYaRJOWznk

Life. What a beautiful choice.

I love this story about a mom (Andie DeKroon) who gave her daughter up for adoption.  She was unmarried and 22 years old at the time.  Later, God blessed her with 10 more children.

In 2008, University of Georgia student Jenna Sykes decided that she wanted to get in touch with her birth mom.  Andie agreed, so they started writing letters.  Now, Jenna is about the same age as Andie was back then.  And they are competing together in the upcoming season of The Amazing Race on CBS!

Think of it.  Andie could have said “that baby will ruin my life.”  She did’t.  She had faith in the future.  She loved God’s creation more than her own convenience.  And now God continues to bless her with riches beyond measure.

These same kind of stories are being written today, when you support CBR.  You are literally writing happy stories on the hearts of others.  These stories won’t all be on TV, but I’m convinced they will be told in eternity before the Throne of God.  (That’s probably better than TV.)  Thank you for writing happy stories.

Mutant Christianity – What does CNN know about the Church that we don’t?

Whatever happened the the Christian faith? Is something horrific going on?

What does CNN and Princeton Theological Seminary know about the Church that we don’t?  Actually, quite a lot? Check these out:

  • “Fake” Christianity.  CNN reports on research by Kenda Creasy Dean, a professor at Princeton Theological Seminary, who says that “your child is following a ‘mutant’ form of Christianity, and you may be responsible.”  According to Dean, it’s a watered-down faith that portrays God as “divine therapist” whose chief goal is to boost self-esteem.  Disclaimer: I haven’t read her book Almost Christian so I don’t know what kind of gospel she is selling—I seek spiritual advice only from those who accept the Bible, in it’s original text, as the inerrant Word of God—but I believe she’s onto something with her diagnosis.  What do you think?
  • Incredibly inarticulate.  A World Magazine article mentions the work of UNC Chapel Hill sociology professor Christian Smith.  Smith, who has since taken a position at Notre Dame, found that many evangelical teenagers know little about Christianity.  Based on interviews with some 267 teenagers, Smith found that the majority of teenagers who identified themselves as evangelicals were “incredibly inarticulate” about their religious beliefs. “They were well-trained in the dangers of drunk driving and STDs,” he said, but they fumbled on basic questions about Christianity.
  • False conversion.  I believe all of this must be related to the phenomenon of “false conversion.”  Let me encourage  you to listen to two sermons by Ray Comfort: (1) Hell’s Best Kept Secret and (2) True and False Conversion.  What do you think?

What do you think?  I can’t wait to read your comments!

Make that call.

Buying time in Afghanistan

I still haven’t had a chance to read Time, but the story is really the photo on the cover.   I’m guessing that this photo alone will buy Obama an additional two years to find victory (or at least the appearance of victory) in Afghanistan.

Why is that important?  And why would Time Magazine want to help prolong our presence there?

Rightly or wrongly, the war in Afghanistan is perceived as Obama’s war.  Iraq was Bush’s war, but success or failure in Afghanistan will belong to Obama.  Ever since the invasion of Iraq, the Dems maintained the mantra, “We should never have ever gone there; we should have focused on Afghanistan instead.”  It was their way of trying to appear to be anti-war (in Iraq) and pro-security (in Afghanistan) at the same time.

Now that they control the government, the Dems are trying to navigate between (a) the American public who heard them say for so many years that we should be in Afghanistan, and (b) their own base, the fringe left, who expected Obama to bring all the troops home on January 21, 2009, no matter what.  For whatever reason, they’ve decided to stay.  For now.  And now that they’re in, Obama really needs a victory (or at least something that they can claim is a victory).

However, to achieve victory, Obama needs time to prosecute the war before political forces pushing for withdrawal become irresistable.  That’s where Time Magazine comes in.  They are heavily invested in their guy Obama, and they will do anything they can to make him appear to be successful.  The photo is a powerful argument to do what’s necessary to make sure young women like Aisha don’t have to live in a country governed by barbarians.  It’s an argument to give President Obama more time.

It is facinating to see how the press selects the photos it will use based on the public policy objectives it wants to support.  The press hated LBJ and Nixon, so they published photos of war violence that diminished public support for US involvement in Vietnam.  They hated Bush, so they published photos of war violence that suppressed public support for the war in Iraq.  But now they love Obama, so they publish a photo that will actually increase public support for Obama’s war.

Of course, it is a powerful photo.  It certainly refocused in my own mind what’s at stake in Afghanistan.  For myself, I hope we do everything possible to bring peace and justice to this corner of the world.  Not only for Aisha’s sake, but for many more just like her.  Taliban barbarians are a cancer that needs to be eradicated.  I say publish the photo.

What do you say?

Stunning Photo on Time Magazine Cover

In a surprising betrayal of left-wing kooks everywhere, Time Magazine has published (on its August 9, 2010 cover) a shocking and disturbing photo of 18-year-old Aisha, an Afghan woman who had her ears and nose cut off by the Taliban. Her crime? Trying to escape from abusive in-laws who beat her without mercy. She posed for the photo because she wants the world to see what a Taliban resurgence will do to the women of Afghanistan.

This has to be a setback for the fringe Left, who say we should forget about 9/11 and get out of Afghanistan and Iraq right now because, after all, America is the real source of evil in the world.

The political Left has allied itself with radical Islam, much in the same way that it embraces Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro (just one example).  This is especially ironic because radical Isalm seeks to impose Sharia Law, which would beat, imprison, and kill the very people that make up the Left: radical feminists, homosexuals, atheists, etc.  I guess they see America as the common enemy, and the defeat of this enemy is so important, they are willing to make common cause with barbarians.

I’m guessing this photo will make it a little more difficult for the kook Left to justify their collaboration with radical Islam.

What do you think? Am I wrong? Am I right? Tell me how!

Pro Life Politics | Help is on the way!

I know the daily news can be discouraging, particularly as we all watch another anti-Constituion Alinsky-ite heading for the Supreme Court.  But there is good news on the horizon.  Sean Trende at Real Clear Politics believes big changes are coming in November.  In  his article, Dems’ Political Landscape Not Improving, Trende writes:

Last week, Nancy Pelosi assured analysts that they could “take it to the bank” that the Democrats would hold onto the House.  But after a series of polls that came out on Monday and Tuesday, I would seriously think twice before making a trip to Wachovia.  These polls have only reinforced the view I have held from April of this year that a 50-seat loss or so is the midpoint scenario for Democrats this fall, rather than the 25-40 seat range that most analysts seem to be talking about.

This week’s generic ballot tracking poll from Gallup shows Republicans with a 5-point lead, tying their previous best showing from 1994.  The previous two weeks revealed a 6-point lead (the largest in 50 years of Gallup tracking) and a tie.  Three datapoints do not a trend make.  But it is hard to ignore that two of the best three generic ballot showings for Republicans ever in Gallup occurred in the last two weeks.

At this critical time, let us not grow weary nor complacent.  We at CBR will be doing everything we can to put abortion on the agenda again this election year.  We will be focusing our truth trucks and our Pro Life on Campus exhibit on key election states and districts where pro-life candidates will be running against pro-abortion candidates.  Please help us as generously as you can!

Defending the First Amendment

Check out this video of Christians in Dearborn, Michigan.  These are police officers actually shutting down the distribution of Christian literature on public streets.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Smw9QuH1xkA

These Christians did everything right.  A few points:

  1. They are clearly acting within their First-Amendment rights.  I’ll spare you all the court citations.
  2. They were filming everything until they were told to stop.  Pro-lifers should always bring at least one video camera; but we recommend at least two.  Video evidence will deter the police (or anyone else) from lying about the facts later.  If you end up in court, almost anyone who gives testimony in court, including police officers, will describe the events in a way that puts himself in the best light.  Video evidence will be critically important to authenticate your story.  The camera don’t lie.
  3. These guys obeyed the authorities in every respect.  It is much, much better to be a plaintiff in a civil action than a defendant in a criminal action.
  4. As I understand it, the Thomas More Law Center will be representing the Americans in bringing legal action against Dearborn and their Police Department.  The Thomas More Law Center has done great work for CBR over the years.
  5. Usually, our encounters with police are trouble-free.  The overwhelming majority of police officers are good people, but as activists, we have to be aware that (a) sometimes police officers are acting under orders from superiors who are frightened, ignorant of the law, and/or corrupt, and (b) there are some police officers who take pleasure in ordering people around just because they can.  The best policy is to always obey the authorities and sue later.  Over and over again, the courts have upheld our right to display abortion photos in public places.
  6. Where possible, we notify the police ahead of time before any of our activities.  It’s not legally required, but it gives the civil authorities time to educate themselves on (a) our right to engage in First-Amendment activities and (b) our commitment and ability to defend our rights in court.

Pro Life Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey: Hope for America

You gotta love what Chris Cristie is doing in New Jersey.  If he can pull it off, he could be a model for saving the national government as well.  See his video below about the need to reign in the bully on the playground.  In this case, the bully is the teachers’ union, who confiscates more than $620 every year from every teacher in New Jersey (totaling more than $100 million every year).

Gov. Christie is pro-life, but that wasn’t always the case.  A few years ago, he was a pro-choice Republican.  But in the late 1990s, he accepted an invitation to meet with Morris Co. Right to Life President (now CBR director) Bill Calvin and CBR Executive Director Gregg Cunningham.  During this meeting, Christie saw prenatal development video and CBR’s graphic abortion video (Harder Truth, replaced now by Choice Blues).  He asked a lot of questions.  The impact of this meeting was reinforced later that year, when the first of his 4 children was born.

Fast-forward to 2009, when Christie put on his campaign website, “I am pro-life.  Hearing the strong heartbeat of my unborn daughter 14 years ago at 13 weeks gestation had a profound effect on me and my beliefs …”

The abortion video is the key.  I’ve seen it work, over and over again, with all kinds of people, in all kinds of settings.  I pledge to you that I will never endorse nor support any candidate for any office (below President) who will not first watch with me a graphic abortion video.  (Choice Blues is available on DVD and by streaming.)

In the video below, Gov. Christie is talking about the teachers’ union.  It’s not about pro-life, but it is awesome.  His strength gives me hope for America.

Pro-life choice: That woman was my mother, and I was the child.

You probably haven’t heard of Andrea Bocelli.  He plays piano and sings.  Apparently, he’s right popular in some parts of the world.  Probably not on the Opry.  Anyhow, his mom was advised to abort him many years ago.  They said he would be disabled.  He tells his story below and sings a bit.

Course, he ain’t no Ronnie Milsap, but he plays pretty good.  He ain’t from round here neither, and I can’t understand a word he says, so I asked my buddy Capt. James T. Kirk to bring his universal translator over to the house.  (You know, the one that makes Klingons and Romulans sound like they grew up in Kansas.)  Anyhow, the audio was broke, so all we got were subtitles.  Enjoy!

Censorship of the internet in Australia

Here is a story on internet censorship in Australia.  As it turns out, Austrailians are pursuing a policy that blocks not only porn websites, but also websites with “objectionable” political material.  Among those are CBR’s website and another website that features CBR’s abortion photos.

WARNING: this TV news story includes graphic depictions of porn websites that you wouldn’t see on American TV.  You can miss the porn images and see the part of the story that deals with CBR’s website and abortion images by going to the 31:45-to-34:30 segment of the story.  For the story, click here.

Some observations:

  1. Abortion advocates know they can’t defend abortion in any population which has seen abortion.  So, they will simply ensure that the public doesn’t see it.
  2. We should always be suspicious of government power.  Christians and pro-lifers offer unpopular messages, and there are many among us who would use the power of government to block those messages.  (Alinsky-ites like Obama, Reid, and Pelosi would stop at nothing to advance their agenda; if you doubt it, read Chapter 2 of their handbook, Rules for Radicals.)
  3. Exercising raw bureaucratic power in Australia, they censored pro-life websites without even letting the pro-lifers know, much less giving them a chance to appeal.  (The Dems want to turn your health care, the internet, talk radio, etc. over to bureaucrats just like this.)
  4. Note the anger directed at the pro-life campaigner: rocks being thrown, posters being torn down, etc.  People will always get more angry at us for showing the pictures of dead children than angry at the abortion doctors for killing the children.  That’s why we always videotape our pro-life activities and encourage you to do the same.
  5. Mr. Grace’s campaign posters urged defense of unborn children but used photos of born children.  The whole problem is that the public doesn’t believe that killing an unborn child is the moral equivalent of killing a born child.  His campaign posters stated conclusions about abortion but the photos used on those posters did not prove the facts which support and even compel those conclusions.  We of course appreciate his use of abortion images on his website.
